not yet started to record a new album, although they've said they are starting soon, probably not until mid January. should be ready to release/tour by August right?

also, Motion City Soundtrack is finished recording, likely releasing in the early spring is my guess.

Dirty Projectors.

brynrich
12-30-2011, 08:43 AM
Two things:
-New Pornos are unlikely since Ms. Case is working on another solo album this year
-Ryan Adams is touring without a band, so he probably won't get booked

Also, how about Alkaline Trio? After not hearing anything about them in the past couple of years, they've done two sold-out shows at Metro. Not my thing, but I think it would work at Lolla

Santigold could be one. Closed a side stage at ACL this year and has a new album out probably sometime in the spring.

Also, this years side stage closers (Crystal Castles, Atmosphere, EiTS) were all bumped up from 08 and 09, so I wouldnt be surprised if there are a couple acts from 09 and 10 recycled. Santigold, Metric, Yeasayer, Matt & Kim, The xx, Dirty Projectors, Mutemath, STS9, or Miike Snow are maybe possibilities.

I'd love to have Metric back. They're working on a new album that's supposed to come out this year, too.

That being said, I hope they put them on a main stage this time. Things were pretty rough at the Playstation Stage in 2010

vargo05

I love the Deftones, but that set there last year was not very good, mainly due to the sound issues.

That stage is a bit of a strange setup but there have been plenty of good performances on that stage. Dan Auerbach, Band of Horses, Rodrigo y Gabriela, J Roddy Walston, Rival Schools, and Zap Mama have all put on good shows in spite of the setup there.

I saw St. Vincent back in November, and asked her if she had any plans to play Lolla. She told me she couldn't say but winked and gave a smile. I said, "so that means yes?" and she smiled wider and said maybe. So there's one confirmed act!

I've been thinking top 20 billing and a Grove headliner. I would think that with say Black Keys VS Drake or Justice, Snow wouldn't have THAT insane of a crowd. That's not even considering who would be playing Perry's.

Has their popularity grown at all since '09? The crowd was pretty small for their 4:30 set opposite Arctic Monkeys.

I highly doubt that they would sub. 4:30 set again or maybe the 7:00 pm side stage closer.

WretchedSkye2113
02-07-2012, 10:39 AM
they are certainly bigger than they were in 09. they're last album really got them out of the indieemoprog scene and into mainstream rock. "Here We Are Juggernaut" actually did really well on the charts.

especially with Eppard's return this year, they picked up a lot of the old fanbase again and still have the new fanbase.

i question their ability to sub as well, but i wouldn't say it's impossible.
side closer also makes perfect sense.

Tenacious D -> Coheed -> Metallica would make me so happy.
especially if we could get another solid act for the side stage that day before coheed. (sword?)

I posted this under the the semi-confirmed thread as well, but here are some likely 2012 Lolla turnouts:

I went through this year's Coachella and Bonnaroo lineups and picked out all of the bands that are playing both festivals. Based on past years scheduling, most of these bands are highly likely to be playing Lollapalooza as well:

Bon Iver
Childish Gambino
Dawes
EMA
Feist
Fitz and the Tantrums
Flying Lotus
Gary Clark Jr.
Grouplove
Kendrick Lamar
Laura Marling
Radiohead
St. Vincent
The Shins
tUnE-yArDs

I also checked every one of these band's websites and not a single one of them has anything currently scheduled the weekend of Lollapalooza.
