Word on the street is that Black Keys, Jack White, Jack Johnson, and Florence and the Machine are all playing. I would have guessed RHCP would be there based on their tour dates, but I can't imagine there would be that much overlap with the Lolla headliners.

I'm thinking Springsteen and Bon Iver will round out the top 6.

Because an entire messageboard for another C3-sponsored festival was disabled and absorbed into this one (thanks to the efforts of kimn).

What I'm asking is since you now have the powers to do that, can you create other subforums? Like an other festivals one? Or one where you can lock Buzz and BDBU in until they kiss and make up?

Snow Patrol hinted at their return for ACL last night at their Austin show. So far from scratch offs I'm hearing Steve Earle, Quiet Company, Delta Spirit. Someone on the ACL Facebook mentioned Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Black Keys, but I'm skeptical of this.

The Lolla lineup page just bumped Afghan Whigs to the end of the billing and they're no longer showing up in the daily breakdown. When you go to their band page, it says they're playing October 12th. Maybe someone confused the Lolla page with the ACL page.

So weird how these things work. They also now have more than 9,000 lineup adds, which in actuality is probably closer to 1,000.

borracho
07-10-2012, 04:24 PM
the drop-off is right at the gate. shuttle can be a cluster at the end of the night with long waits (30-45 min?). public transport is not an option to the fest as far as i know. i know there are some pedi-cabs that get real close, but i've never used one so i can't give you more details as far as cost or exactly where they end up.

Downtown parking and using the shuttle is convienient but can be time consuming. You can park at Parker Center for about 7.00 a day and walk from 1st street, we usually bite the bullet and park nearby at Shady Grove for 25.00 a day. That way we can dump our stuff and go get a bite to eat.

I was thinking the same thing. I just find it hard to believe that DP and the Cure will both be there because they typically only have one "legacy" act. But if this guy is right, it also makes me think the Kings of Leon will be at Lolla because there is always some overlap with ACL and Lolla headliners with C3.

Last year, May 21 (http://www.brooklynvegan.com/austin/2012/05/2012_acl_fest_l.html). In 2011, it was May 17 (http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2011/05/austin_city_lim_5.html).

And no - at least in the last two years - it didn't sell out before the lineup announcement. It sells out pretty quick though (http://austinist.com/2012/05/23/acl_fest_update_3_day_friday_and_sa.php).

LoT183

They put the last 3 days on sale the day of the line-up announcement usually. But its hard to get them usually, even if you are there right when they go onsale. Though this year should be better with the two weekends.

So the five names (Depeche, Cure, Muse, AfP, KoL) are looking more and more likely I'd say. But, how are they going to schedule that? I feel like Depeche, The Cure, Muse, and AfP would have some crossover. I'm really hoping Depeche or Atoms for Peace get a big 90 minute non-headlining slot (which ACL has done in the past) so I can see all four.

Depeche into The Cure (or Atoms for Peace into the Cure too) on Sunday would be pretty awesome.

agenthal
03-28-2013, 08:08 PM
I feel like these rumors look even more legit now with Lolla's lineup. The Cure is the sharing headliner with Lolla, Depeche Mode's SXSW thing, and since KoL didn't show up (I expect them at Lolla next year now), and Muse camp rumors... Only one that I hesitate about it AFP.

ThePecanSandies
03-28-2013, 08:23 PM
Seems unlikely that both the Cure and Depeche Mode will headline, but I'd be all for it. I actually think AFP will be there. Fits right into their tour schedule (http://tickets.waste.uk.com/Store/DisplayItems.html).

While I don't think The Cure should be #1 there, who else would be the unopposed headliner? Idk. They could have, but usually both fests do share a headliner.

Driftwood

Mumsons will be the shared headliner. Maybe The Killers too.

Driftwood
03-29-2013, 07:27 AM
Yeah I really don't see The Cure coming back so quickly after Lolla (can they stick around NA for that entire stretch?)

Depeche Mode and AFP make a lot of sense. Muse coming back would still be a ridiculously quick repeat for a top 3 act.

I could easily see Mumsons being the unopposed headliner (hmm didn't know about htat Austin show ...)

Of course maybe ACL decides to adopt the Coachella strategy of feeling they need to draw from the international crowd during non-peak festival season to make 2 weekends work. Then all bets are out the window.

muthastone
03-29-2013, 10:30 AM

With a new album (http://www.nme.com/news/kings-of-leon/69429) coming out in the fall, I feel like ACL makes sense for Kings of Leon. They're touring the UK all summer (with some US fests), so a US tour in the fall seems likely, too.

kimn

Kings of Leon, Phoenix, VW, Mumford. Austin doesn't have the same scope clauses as Chicago.

LoT183
04-04-2013, 01:04 PM
There's no way Mumford is playing. They are doing TWO nights at a 14k venue, and they are playing that in June when the ACL line-up usually gets announced mid-May, and I do not see ACL announcing one of their biggest headliners as a late add, they have never done that before as far as I know

I still believe the Cure/Depeche/AFP/Muse/KoL thing. That may be more hopefulness then expectations but whatever. I think they'll add The Killers or Phoenix or Nine Inch Nails to that (I'm really hoping they stop doing the unopposed Sunday headliner thing). Though the Killers are playing Austin in May too (though smaller venue then Mumford and only one night, not two, and in early May)

The only one on that list I'm iffy on is The Cure, I think all the others are very likely (save maybe KoL, I don't know much about their plans, but they'd make sense). Pearl Jam could definitely be a real option if The Cure is out. Or they could have two of the three names I mentioned above. I could see Kings of Leon/Depeche/Nine Inch Nails/Muse/AFP/Phoenix

Pearl Jam would be AMAZING!
C3 puts on Voodoo fest in addition to Lolla and ACL?

No they don't.

But Pearl Jam did do Lolla Brazil and Chile, maybe C3 has them doing ACL as well.

Bruce. Book it.

This could be very possible, I remember someone saying he's doing more US touring this year (unless I made that up) and he STILL hasn't hit Texas.

Bruce or The Cure would go a long ways towards selling me on ACL over Voodoo. Can't think of much else (that's possible/likely) that would. I'd probably lean towards Voodoo if ACL got PJ or Tom Petty instead (I know ACL's line-up will be much deeper but I want to visit NOLA again, considering I'll be in Austin for Fun Fun Fun like a month after ACL, and Voodoo doesn't seem as crowded which is a big plus to me)

he's been avoiding texas all year.

Not counting SXSW, he hasn't done a Texas date at all on this tour, last year or this year. I also remember reading somewhere that he was coming back to the US at the end of this year, but I don't remember the source on that so I'm not sure

if its a taping, put them down as playing. if its just a regular show, then I doubt ACL would let them announce that before the ACL line-up came out

Let me preface by saying the following is my opinion and my opinion only, I know the majority of people will think im an idiot, i dont know music, etc......

Im not down for this lineup. I was never into 80s New Wave growing up and 30 years later im still not into New Wave and to have Depeche Mode and The Cure as 2 headliners is very disheartening. I can honestly say that I dont listen to any of these bands at all except for Lionel Ritchie, a little QOTSA, and some Kendrick Lamar, the only other band i would be looking forward to is Charlie Walker and the Dynamites. I have 9000+ songs on my ipod and I might have 2 songs of Muse, 2 of Phoenix, and thats about it from the rest of the bands in this lineup. Unfortunately im stuck coming b/c I already got my plane tickets, and my friend booked a hotel that is non-refundable. If I could get a full refund for everything I would and take my $$$ to the Bottle Rock Festival. Out of all the festival lineups, I think this is the weakest one in my opinion. Where is Macklemore and Ryan Lewis? Major Lazer? Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite? Hometown boy Gary Clark Jr? Thievery Corporation? The Lumineers? Michael Franti and Spearhead? Jurassic 5? Trombone Shorty? How could Outside Lands get Paul McCartney but ACL gets The Cure? I always thought of ACL as the premier music festival but after this lineup I think ACL is probably on the downturn for festivals.

This is one hell of a top half of a lineup. I'm glad no one bet me that Depeche Mode AND Cure would be on this lineup-- I never thought that would happen at a C3 fest. I'm going through all the scenarios I can involving TX family and the baby to figure out if I can swing this. I'm thinking odds are around 8% right now.

Man this has thrown a spanner in the works, a festival which has took my favs out of Lolla (Phoenix, Local Natives and Kendrick) as well as Arctics, SSPU and Tame Impala.

Does this sell out before the schedule coming out? I'd like to compare all the schedules between ACL/Lolla/Osheaga before deciding which one to go to.

nizzle
05-07-2013, 09:35 AM
this is the first year where they haven't done single-days, danny, so it's pretty hard to gauge how quickly it'll sell out. schedules don't usually come out till next month, but yeah, that could be my dealbreaker as well. almost all my favorite bands from this lineup will undoubtedly play between 3 and 7 pm.
