This is more of a neutral comment that most will probably consider a negative: There's too much overlap with Lollapalooza. It seems that with each year, the two festivals become just North/South editions of the same lineup. Personally I'm okay with that as I have no intention of attending both, but if I did, I'd feel a little cheated. I also feel like Lollapalooza gets the edge as being the better festival this year (once again). Of course, I'm biased
On an unrelated note, the Weezer billing is sad, but probably realistic at this point.

I think the overlap issue only has an effect on 10% or probably less of the total people attending ACL. I know of a very limited number of people who attend multiple national festivals.
For me, attending both, It will eliminate some conflicts.
It's funny how Bon Iver was the hoax.

This is the worst line up ever! How come C3 can't deliver when it comes to ACL? Garbage...

Not really. They were one band I was looking forward to seeing (again)

Agreed.
For the first time, though.

moved from the other thread.
Do you mean Weeknd?
I don't know if this lineup can compete with Texas-OU.
Probably gonna volunteer.
FUCK. Forgot about this game... again.
But yeah, this lineup is so fucking generic and lazy that I'm losing my mind. Sharing over half of the top ten with Lolla is a slap in the face. Most of the good undercard acts were already here for SXSW. Wasting top 30 spots on one-hit-wonders and novelty acts is infuriating.
But most of all, no Abel Tesfaye.

Why is it sad?
When they played Lollapalooza they were a headliner, now they are on the fourth line.

Scheduling Neil Young against Jack White is beyond dumb. Neil should be the Sunday headliner.

If their upcoming record is as bad as their last, then they'll be playing Austin Kiddie Limits next year

I really hope that they did this because they know Jack White is playing a preshow on Thursday or an aftershow Friday.

UT vs OU is early afternoon.

UT vs. OU has been at 11am the last few years. Hopefully that sticks.

If you "volunteer", will you be able to choose your hours?
nizzle
05-22-2012, 12:23 PM
I'm told you can tell them your preferences, but if you're a first year volunteer (like I'd be), you should probably be flexible all weekend to get selected.
The shifts are four hours a day, so I would get half of each day regardless. So that's nice.

30 of the 121 acts are playing both lolla and ACL
edit... ACL just added the weeknd to the lineup
so make that 31 out of 122 acts
ACL shares 20 acts with Bonnaroo, 14 acts with Sasquatch, 18 acts with Coachella and 14 acts with Outside Lands.

It's not quite a 0.0 but it's by far the worst fest among the big 5 Coachella, Roo, Lolla, and Outside Lands.
Hell even FPSF doesn't look too far behind ACL this year and tickets could be had for $15 up until December.
The one silver lining was seeing Delta Spirit, and Crystal Castles on the lineup, hopefully DS is playing an aftershow too.

if I liked country or easy listening singer/songwriter music, I would love this lineup.
but no.

Not necessarily. I like country and "easy listening singer/songwriter music" and, with a few exceptions, am not very impressed with this year's ACL. But it is the reason why I will almost always like ACL more than Lollapalooza.

I almost always prefer Coachella and Lolla over ACL and Roo because I am not generally that into singer-songwriters and roots music artists.

it just seemed like every band on the lineup that i'd not heard of and checked out yesterday, was something country-ish. there will be a lot of good discoveries this year at acl, for ppl into that kinda thing.

it's not my bag either, but i still find enough every year, to make a good schedule out of. i mean, if there are two dozen bands you'd wanna check out, it's "good enough" imo. but yeah, i wouldn't travel for this lineup... it just happens to be on my turf.

I agree 100%. (but the country and easy listening music I like is completely different from the country and easy listening music you like, but you know that).

To me, Friday is the strongest day for undercard acts. Saturday is fairly weak, and then it picks up a little on Sunday. I think Trampled by Turtles will be a lot of fun. Ben Howard has potential.

Does ACL schedule their headliners to completely overlap like Lolla? If so, why on earth are Jack White and Neil Young the same night?

Because the alternative is Black Keys vs. Jack White, and that makes even less sense.

So there is a football game going on this same weekend? That explains why there are no friggin hotels to be had! Ridiculous!
The football game is in Arlington.
