I haven't been since '06, so this has undoubtedly changed. What is the rail situation like at most of the stages? Just a simple front rail? A center rail running down the middle of the crowd? A cross-rail like the main stage at coachella? I'm mostly referring to the main four stages, as I'm guessing there isn't anything special at the smaller stages. This is an important question for shorties.

The Sony stage (south substage) has a lengthwise rail in front of the stage that only press people can get behind. There is no transverse rail separating the crowd.

The PlayStation stage (north substage) has effectively no rail, just an orchestra-pit-like area for the press.

The Bud Light stage (north main stage) has the same lengthwise-rail setup as the Sony stage.

The Red Bull stage (south main stage) has a T-barrier dividing the front half of the crowd all the way back to the sound booth. It's open in the middle and security dudes are inside.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I would swear, last year, the Bud stage had a new, and odd set, of barriers. People complained about it in the 2011 superlatives. It had a barrier separating the left and the right side of the crowd, however, it was not centered on the middle of the stage. It was halfway between the middle and the right side of the stage, extended back for some length, then extended horizontally until it was in line with the sound booth, and then went vertically back to that.

This led to many sets where if you were on the left side, that area by the vertical to horizontal transition was quite empty.
