Was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't mind seeing a few of the other headliners, but am not worried about any possible conflicts. Muse + the fantastic under card make Lolla a winner in my eyes. Not looking forward to under card conflicts, which there a bound to be.

concertgoer

But it's a preshow so I don't think they would have a problem "stripping down" their show
Hell Radiohead was going to do a preshow in 2008,, but then Thom got sick and I am sure that their stage show would have been paired down compared to what they did in Grant Park.

In recent memory I think Phoenix and Soundgarden have been the only headliners to do this though I may be totally wrong.

Krentistthedentist
05-01-2011, 03:05 AM
Went to both shows.
Phoenix was 57 after fees (I'm not kidding)
Soundgarden was 60.
Both were special experiences, though, I guess (Phoenix in a teeny venue + Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix played in sequence, but it's not like they don't play all 10 anyways, so...)
I know both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam were fan club only, with Pearl Jam being the harder "get," I guess, since you could just sign up for free on the spot as opposed to the 10c $20 membership.

Oh, also had a Beastie Boys ticket.
Think that was about $50 flat.

those are the two headliners I most want to see. I've kind of decided that Muse is the only headliner I need to see, so them conflicting would be bad. not that I'm totally into maufive but I'm really not into coldplay or MMJ that much, and FF & Em, I'm a fan of but wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't see them.

agenthal
05-22-2011, 11:02 PM

You could hear it, but it wouldn't be loud enough to enjoy properly. But unless you absolutely have to be up within the front twenty or so yards of the crowd, it's not very hard to walk up through the crowd towards the front from one of the sides and be relatively close.

I don't know man... Black Holes had just come out when they played in '07 and they had a hell of a crowd. I think more people than you think are familiar with their earlier stuff. I think if anything, a good chunk of people have become disenchanted with them since their last couple albums.

They also play a lot of neat segues in between songs. During the Glasto set, there was some Zeppelin, AC/DC and some other stuff I can't remember. Also, I didn't realize how good a guitarist Matt Bellamy was until I watched that. He can shred.

“It’s probably the last time some of these songs will ever be played live again,” he said. “It was on the second album that things really started happening for the band, and when we focused on the live side of things much more.”

“So it’ll be like coming full circle: we’ve gone off on one a little bit, and now it feels like the right time to pull it back and remind ourselves of what we were doing 10 years ago.”

It makes no sense to me considering that is by far their best album with the best live songs. whatevz.

Maybe it will be Muse performing The Resistance...lol.

nikolajz1
06-28-2011, 03:24 PM

I agree with you guys about their expected setlist, mostly. When I saw them last year it was a mix of Resistance, Origin singles, Absolution singles, BH&R singles, and 1 rarity (Ruled by Secrecy). But I'm pretty confident it'll be this same list except with Citizen because I'm pretty sure they've played it at almost every festival within the last year. AND I'm really leaning on the before R&L theory that they'll treat us to some practice Oos. All I know is if they play ONE Showbiz song I'd be sooo happy, jealous they did in 07'.

I'm guessing that they'll probably play 3-4 OoS songs. Plug in Baby, CE, maybe Bliss, and hopefully megalomania. I'm kind of upset about them phasing out New Born, but getting Megalomania or Bliss in return would be great.

I'm banking on the theory that they need to practice playing OoS songs in a live setting before R&L, so my hopes (and expectations, black holes and revelaaationsss) are pretty high.

It's intriguing that they sound checked alot of OoS stuff, but the fact that they didn't play anything interesting tells me they're saving all of the fun stuff for Reading and Leeds and Lolla is just gonna get a late Resistance Tour show.

It's kinda sad that the best live band of all time is incompetent when developing setlists. I'm reconsidering Coldplay once again.

Having seen the other Rock based headliners in the past, I agree that Muse puts on the best live show by comparison. Probably not "best of all time" but definitely leading their genre. It's all relative. My usual idea of a great live band is someone who can get a club crowd of 500 people really involved, but arena-wise, Muse takes the cake.

I think I've heard Muse called "the best live band in the world" more than I've heard it about anyone else on that list. I don't believe it either and usually that sort of praise is from shit sources like GQ and NME but they definitely get a ton of love.

I agree with the guy above me though, when it comes to rating live shows everything's really subjective and not worth arguing about.

There was a group next to me that saw them at LA, Indy, and then are gonna see them at Lolla. I can't imagine seeing the same show 3 times in a week. Sounds boring. I told them I was going to see Coldplay then they stopped talking to me :/

There apparently going to see them at Reading and Leeds too. Fanboys are annoying.

They have to change it up for Lolla. They just HAVE to. At least two or three OoS songs. How about one fucking Showbiz song? I will continue to dream until I am crushed at 10 pm Friday...

they really are bad at selecting set lists huh?

one fucking song from OoS. (I mean, they could just play the first 6 songs from that and I personally would be satisfied) I feel like Assassin and City of Delusion would also be great live...

You'd think playing LA Colosseum with Rage would make them change it up... but not ever that!

I think the problem here is that Muse doesn't remember how to play their old songs.

I just think Matt can't sing as high anymore so they don't do Showbiz or OoS songs.

Muse got big in America on their last few albums.

The masses want the newer stuff, Muse realizes this, and therefore accommodates it.

If you want a set list with old stuff, go to Europe. Plain and simple.

Their Europe setlists aren't that much different (aside from their promise for Reading/Leeds).

They're just playing late resistance tour generic setlists at these shows. They're tech production is so outrageous that the crew can't just randomly design video and lighting for an old song on the fly, so Im thinking that when they headed over to north america for this mini tour they picked one setlist for all the shows. Easier on the crew, plus Matt def doesn't remember how to play any non singles or old songs (even though any crowd member would be happy to teach him).

Lame lame lame
Will be going to Coldplay. :/

I mean yeah, they are still supporting a new album, so they are going to play new stuff wherever they play, but for instance, Glasto last year got New Born, Citizen Erased, and Feeling Good, all of which it looks like Lolla won't be getting.
