Let's assume RHCP denies Lollapalooza instead favoring an actual US tour. Maybe they're sick of the festival circuit and they want to tour at home with their own show now that they've had their live practice in.
Let's also assume that TBK are certainly headlining. Let's also, again, assume that Drake will not be, and that Justice has been designated to Perry's. Just for the sake of this:
Metallica (Queens of the Stone Age) * Radiohead (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)* Jay-Z (MGMT)
Bjork (Primal Scream)* The Killers (Kasabian)* The Black Keys (Pulp)
Eh?
North v. South
Metallica vs. Bjork
Radiohead vs. Jay-Z
The Killers vs. The Black Keys
EDIT: One other possibility, shifting some things around
Metallica (Mastodon)
The Killers (Queens of the Stone Age)
and Kasabian plays an earlier slot.
Krentistthedentist
11-29-2011, 02:52 AM
Is Primal Scream a sub in this moron country?
Also holy shit that's a strong lineup popularity wise. I mean, Roo pulled Pearl Jam, Metallica, and Kanye West and Pearl Jam > Radiohead* in popularity terms but Kanye < Jay-Z popularity wise. Then again the Killers > Jack Johnson popularity wise and add in Bjork and modern day keys, plus 3 bands you have subbing that could easily be in the 6 slot...
*before anyone gets all up in arms about this, consider this: what if Phish or the Dead had mainstream appeal? OK. That's how popular Pearl Jam is.

i love mgignac's lineup-
except put Bjork against TBK and The Killers against Metallica.
Killers and TBK have a pretty big overlap, and i want to see Metallica and Bjork :p
also, RH would definitely be billed over Metallica at this point.

Even ignoring the fact that they played in 2007, I would say the direction the festival is headed makes it more likely for Daft Punk to headline in 2012 than it was in, say, 2010 or 2009.

It's more about the fact that Daft Punk won't tour at all anytime soon. I mean before 2007, it had been nearly a decade since they had last done an American tour. Really, they probably won't be interested in touring for another few years

despite all the fighting and some queer ass comments from sk8, everyone watch this video of the killers and think about how awesome they'd be at lolla. as for daft punk, their past lolla performance speaks for itself. Killers and Daft Punk for Lollapalooza 2012!!

Lollapalooza 2012

each time daft punk has gone on tour or made a new album they have changed the color of their logo. red-orange (Homework), chrome (Discovery), black (Human After All), blue (Alive 2007). check it out, they changed it to red www.daftpunk.com

no. the were a 245 side stage in 2010. I think AM! would probably at best be a 5pm side stage. I think with that lineup, m83 and the knife would close the grove since theyd get the nighttime bump. I think SSPU is too big to close the grove also.

MMJ also only has 15 million and they just headlined. Against Me! could be a 4pm main stage with a new album, but unless it gets big I cant see them closing the grove/side stage closing/subbing. M83 is one of my favorite bands and I'm pretty sure as of now he is not big enough to sub. Granted come August he could be if Midnight City keeps blowing up, but he just played Lincoln Hall which isn't exactly a big venue.

that makes more sense then because he played really small venues along the east coast as well. That being said, I think m83 would be a side stage closer or grove closer to be a night slot

Black Keys just booked a NA tour, hitting Chicago and Indy in March...Don't know much about the proximity/time rules, just thought I'd throw it up here. Maybe they'll let it slip that night that they're playing Lollapalooza, a few bands I've seen have done the old cliche, "Well, I don't even know if we're supposed to tell you this yet....but we're totally coming back to you guys for __________________!" just to amp the crowd up.

no, i just want to know why. i dont know too much about the nine inch nails, i just heard that they were doing new stuff in 2012 and they have played before, so i put 2 and 2 together and figured they could be a perfect veteran act from the 90's.
Wow

I thought about Sabbath but I honestly dont think they're a headliner at all. Sub at absolute best.

Franz Ferdinand announced they are playing Primavera next year, are they big enough to headline in the US?

You guys are being complete dicks about the Nine Inch Nails thing. Do you honestly think Trent will stay committed to the "no more NIN" thing? Does any act actually do that these days?
I will say that I assume this is what got the rumor of new NIN next year started
Reznor indicated on Twitter that there would be new material released in the future. On October 27, 2011, he tweeted: "OK, back to work. LOTS of new music coming your way very soon...
I think it's too early for him to back off the "NIN retirement" schtick, so he was probably referring to the other 49327849 projects he's involved with.

I'm not going to bother reading the last few pages, but I really hope they "it's all they had available" argument isn't used. If they could do what they did with Soundgarden surely they can pull something (several) from The Cure, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Drake, Tom Petty, WTT, Jay-z and or Bjork (all new to the fest and should be in the mix for Summer 2012 dates).

I guess Florence & The Machine and Justice have never played Lolla and could probably headline at this point too.

There's also the fact that he contributed to the Achtung Baby tribute album as Nine Inch Nails

NIN is only retired as a live act.
He said all along he may release stuff under the name in the future.
Unless I'm getting my band breakups confused.

I don't know how we're being "complete dicks" to johnd. If someone (including myself) made that comment in the fans lounge they'd have gotten it a lot worse than Johnd did.
And the guy that said Sabbath would be a sub?
Seriously, we've been relatively nice given the intelligence of some of these comments.

I didn't know that how nice you treat someone should be based on the intelligence of their comments or how nicely someone else would treat you.

heh.
I didn't say you have to be nicer. Krenny reasons for not being nice are silly. If he just said we are jackasses to noobs and people who make dumb comments because it is funny I would have more respect.
