i think she could be a stretch since she has overseas dates a few days after lolla i think. that being said, i would not be surprised if she was on the lineup

Just Chile. The problem with Bjork is that I don't think she'd cater to the demographic that Lolla seems to be going for nowadays.
My Morning Jacket doesn't really fit the demographic of the bro community either though. Granted they play a lot of festival dates.

Put a Justice or something good on the other end and I'm good.
At this point in Metallica's career, they were 2 for 2.
Justice is only 1 for 2 at this point.
I understand if you are a megafaggot and don't like metal, but don't act like Justice is better > : (

I have nothing to back this up, but I don't feel like C3 will want to resort to bringing back a #1 Chicagopalooza act. I'm still not expecting a repeat of RHCP, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, etc. It's possible they've avoided bringing back the Pixies for that reason.
I think it's time for Metallica to take their spot at the top.

I would think that headlining Ultra 2012 makes an electronic act somewhat relevant, yes. I suppose Justice would make more people on this board happier, but I think Tiesto would grab the attention of more folks at the top of the bill.

FRIDAY
Funeral Party-Band of Skulls-The Vines-QOTSA(Gogol Bordello)Pearl Jam vs Tiësto(DJ)STS9-Dirty Projectors-Bat For Lashes-tUnE-yArDs
Grove: M83
Perry's: Wiz Khalifa

Girls-Surfer Blood-Gaslight-Kasabian(MUTEMATH)The Black Keys vs Drake(DJ)Lupe Fiasco-Pendulum-Foxy Shazam-K'NAAN
Grove: The Hives
Perry's: Armin van Buuren
I feel like Armin is way too big for Perry's. I mean if deadmau5 actually played on a main stage, I think Armin would too. Also, I think Real Estate would be at Pitchfork rather than Lolla because of the reviews on Pitchfork's website.

Like it or not, the Keys are playing the United Center. Wilco is not. Bjork is not.
And I think that Queens and The Shins (and maybe even Nicki, depending on how her year goes) would be bigger than Thievery Corporation.
WretchedSkye2113
01-10-2012, 11:24 AM
you're still arguing about 4-6. not a big jump.
and you're right, but i don't see an exclusive (as far as lolla is concerned) act like Bjork being billed less than 4th. mountains out of molehills though.
it was mentioned last year when qotsa was still a possibility that they couldn't sell half of the seats in Congress Theater, and im not sure the Riv show last year sold out either. they have a strong fanbase, but i'm not sure where they rank on the whole spectrum anymore. The Shins billing at Coachella is ridiculous, are they that big now? honestly just ignorance on my part if they are.
my placement of thiev.corp. is strictly based on who they were placed above in 2009. idk if they've become more or less known in that time.

i think it's that knowing Muse so early in the game last year caused us to create a lot of threads/search for rumors earlier.
this year we've been in the dark for 6 months, so we haven't bothered poking around as much.
also, because the board was far more vocal with their hate for festivals in general last year, hence apathy.

Outside Lands is held in mid August. The LA shows are the first Saturday and Sunday after Lolla and the Oakland shows are the following Tue and Wed. They could play OL on the Friday before or the weekend after those shows. Everybody happy?

In 2010-11 both festivals had Arcade Fire and The Strokes within a year of each other, the only difference that time was Lolla got them before Coachella did. It's definitely possible.
That's assuming you count The Strokes as a Coachella headliner anyway. Even if you don't, the festivals seem to be getting more and more similar when it comes to headliners.

The calendar year thing is completely arbitrary and meaningless.

'fest a will not share two headliners with fest b'
'fest b had two of fest a's headliners from the year before' has no relevance, not to mention the fact that no one considered the Strokes headliners.
We're deviating from what my main point was.
The fact is that it's stupid if you think Lollapalooza can't have two of Coachella's headliners just because "it has never happened before". If C3 wants Radiohead and The Black Keys I don't see why Coachella would influence that one way or the other.

So I really think C3 is going to book another EDM headliner on the North Stage this year.
ya know, i'd be ok with that if it weren't fucking American dubstep, which brings in worse crowds than Enimem- and worse- doesn't keep them contained inside of Perry's tent all weekend.

I think we said the same thing around this point in the year in regards to Kings of Leon and Phoenix.

Ultra headliner and third on their day at Coachella. They can headline the North stage.

does conventional wisdom dictate that Ultra Headliners = Lolla headliners these days?

well, Tiesto, mau5, Chemical Bros, Guetta...

but if bands who are 2nd on their day at Coachella are smaller than bands who are 2nd on their day at Lolla, except for the strokes who were 2nd at both, how does it make sense for Justice to headline the north stage? Also, it's not like the new album did anything to up their status.

Well, you probably still shouldn't be here since you actually are stupid enough to not only believe Kanye is awful (unforgivably stupid in and of itself), but that he'd be worse than most mainstream rap headliners.
