a few thoughts over the last few pages
regarding RHCP: Lolla and ACL seem very likely, Outside Lands not so much due to Oakland date
regarding Justice: They can headline
regarding Radiohead:I think they could still be at Lolla. They tour Euro in June/July, head over to Asia for Fuji Rock and back here for Lolla and more Am dates. Many bands follow this touring pattern now. I could see a breaking of the Lolla/Coach no same headliners in same year mold, it is not a written in stone thing and festivals are running out of purely exclusive headliners as a whole. Bottom line: either Radiohead announces more dates for later March/ early April in Chicago or they will be at Lolla

nikkirkpatrick
01-11-2012, 10:05 PM

i mean price wise, RH, Metallica, RHCP can't be that far off of Eminem, FF, CP (+Muse).

It seems there was a time when Lolla alternated between top-heavy lineups and mid-card-heavy lineups. I'm not sure if that's really been the case lately. Someone should analyze that.

06: midcard. (really just rhcp and kw were big)
07: midcard. (PJ and DP were the only massive headliners)
08: top heavy (i mean i'd argue that lineup was thick all the way through, but RH RATM NIN KW is pretty gigantic)
09: midcard. (DM was the only really crazy exclusive huge act)
10: top heavy/balanced (SG, GD, and LG were all big gets, AF, St, and P were all big names/fairly exclusive)
11: pretty damn top heavy. (muse -> mmj is a big jump, as is apc -> cee lo)

Drake has been more successful on the charts lately. Take Care moved 657k in week 1 (compared to 4 something for coldplay) and has since gone platinum. I think/hope that's what Nik is alluding to, but Coldplay is still a way bigger live draw and when they play, it's a much bigger deal than when Drake plays.

Eminem, Foo Fighters, and Muse were leaked in an article in January.

That's right, Kot's article came out earlier than it usually does.

My bad.

WretchedSkye2113

no worries.
i just remember that one because it seemed so early to know that much about the headliners. especially when we already guessed that MMJ and APC would be there, and shortly after the Kot article, Perry leaked that Deadmau5 (errr "some edm act") would also headline.

Coldplay was the only surprise last year, and even ktd and some others had that figured out early.

WretchedSkye2113
01-14-2012, 03:07 PM
also, if Lolla is still gonna be as top heavy as last year, the lineups we're throwing out there don't quite add up.
Drake, VW, and even TBK (i know i know) won't add up to what the top 4 or 5 cost last year.
so either we get a better midcard, or there are bigger names that we haven't put together yet.

i still think Metallica, RHCP, Yeezy, and Bjork will occupy the top 4.

Green Day started at 7:45, The Cure could have something like that and just cut some songs out.

I don't think The Cure will be there though.

To defend niko (sort of), she is pretty big.

lololol, but yeah Carl. She's probably the most popular artist today. If she played a festival, she'd more than likely be a #1. And in regards to The Cure, if they play Lolla I think they'd play the north stage. I can't imagine a great deal of people caring. A crowd the size of Depeche Mode would be respectable for the Cure.

Right. So right now we have a "logical list" of M83 and RHCP based on tour dates, yes? Any more we can think of?

New York is closer to Chicago than LA. And Finland is a hell of a lot further away than both. RHCP has 2-4 days to get to Lolla from there. Does that sound logical to you? Do they have a lot of other transcontinental gigs with half a week inbetween?

If Gaga can be booked after Soundgarden and Green Day in 2010, you can bet Adele can be booked after The Cure.

Unlike Soundgarden and Green Day, no one cares about The Cure anymore.

Someone has on mind "The Stones Roses"?

You can get out too while we're at it.

Actually, that was mean. Let me try again.

Buzzcocks and Stone Roses wouldn't headline. Roses won't even play the fest regardless.

RHCP might (unfortunately) be there.

Why? I mean I love The Cure, but the board way overrates their popularity. The North Stage would be a perfect spot for them.

Soundgarden was a reunion, so there's that bump of course, but if you think Soundgarden is that much of a bigger act than the Cure with Lolla's younger demographics, you're kidding yourself.

I never said Buzzcooks would be a headline, & Stones Roses has a headline festival with Radiohead in Japan two weeks before Lollapalooza

More troubling for me is that I probably have to go to that show because I drunkenly promised one of my best buds I would go with him. Ugh.

Clueless in believing Adele is bigger than The Cure? wtf. I dont understand. If Coldplay and Arcade Fire could play the North stage, it'll be fine for The Cure if they play.

And if Adele played her crowd would probably be as big as Eminem's was last year.

Although I would pretty easily see Adele over The Cure if that conflict ever arose :p
