Although I would pretty easily see Adele over The Cure if that conflict ever arose :p

Anyway I don't think Adele will play Lolla, but the idea of The Cure playing the north stage isn't that crazy considering that NIN and Coldplay have had the same slot.

I think The Cure could play the north stage, but they'll never be booked. And I don't believe Lolla would have Adele billed at the top spot if she played.
thombjorke.

I don't think Adele would be quite the live draw that she is on record. She basically just stands there and sings as opposed to someone like Gaga who has the giant production.

How about the fact that Depeche Mode was billed above Killers in 2009? Does that help the case for Cure being billed over Adele if they were ever to be on the same lineup?

Personally neither the Cure nor Adele will play, so I don't see what difference it makes about where they are billed.

Just glancing at Wiki, the Cure and DM have fairly comparable sales in the US.
Either way, you're missing the point. I said that DM being billed over the Killers would be similar to the Cure being billed over Adele or Soundgarden being billed over Lady GaGa. We're talking current popularity vs. historical popularity.

I don't feel like this changes the odds that much. C3 has booked him twice for Chicagopalooza, the inagural Lolla Chile, and just last year for ACL. There's already plenty of precedent for them to bring him back-- especially in his hometown. My only question is if Drake fits into the equation. Do they bring Kanye back for a 3rd time in 8 years or do they opt for the new hot act with a smaller price tag and maybe a comparable draw? Do they book both?

LOL at everything BDBU is saying about The Cure. Everything is so true. They are such a lame band... just my opinion though. Anyways, what happened to speculation about Blink? And in regards to Carl's post about Kanye being brought back and if Drake will also be booked, I'd say yes. If they're trying to make the most money, they book two extremely popular rappers to draw a ton of teens in. My predictions may be a little top heavy but this is what I'm thinking.
Radiohead + Kanye West + RHCP
The Black Keys + Blink-182 + Drake
I know this would cost Lolla a ton of money but I think this would be their best shot in getting people (teens) to go to the festival and for Lolla to pay these artists.

were you alive when springsteen was on the cover of both time and newsweek in 1975? springsteen's been washed up since the tunnel of love tour after his divorce from his first wife.
and, with respect to the cure, when kiss me3 was a new lp release in 1987, I thought about buying it for about half a minute, and then decided not to, because my opinion back then was that the cure sucked. and I held that opinion for about 20 years, but a couple of years ago, I began to change my mind. so that now there is no act I'd rather see headline lollapalooza than robert smith and company.

PJ at Lolla/in the #2 slot is possible...but I honestly think only if Radiohead is billed #1 (sorry to bring that up again).
Pearl Jam are sort of playing this coming summer the same way Coldplay did last summer- had been in the studio, new record on the way, likely to play some new material live, and have already scheduled several festival dates. Also don't think it's been too soon since they played to bring them back, as clearly C3 will have no problem booking TBK for a headlining slot.

Typically those acts play big student body state schools (Illinois, Indiana, etc.)
Avetts played shows at the shitty part of Arizona State, New Mexico, Southern Illinois, Kentucky, Illinois State, etc. which, without really knowing or caring to look it up, are about 10,000 students less than the campuses where Bob Dylan, Drake and other headliners have typically played.

30 STM, Wiz, Cudi, Passion Pit, Avetts are all subs as of today I think.
Still disagree with theses. Hip-hop shows at college are a different animal.

Not surprised by any of those except 30STM really.
30 STM had a show booked at the ARC (our gym) last year.
They cancelled the show like a week in advance and were like "fuck you guys" and then came back to play assembly hall in april 2011

In relation to Florence, she's one album off of being considered a headliner.
For the same reasons you would consider Adele as not a headliner, only having two albums, never having headlined a festival before, and so forth.
I do believe Florence is pretty much a lock for non-headliner though, probably subbing whichever act is most female-friendly.

Who is "you"?
I am pretty sure you have to be a giant moron to consider someone coming off a 5x platinum album a non-headliner.
