In relation to Florence, she's one album off of being considered a headliner.

For the same reasons you would consider Adele as not a headliner, only having two albums, never having headlined a festival before, and so forth.

I do believe Florence is pretty much a lock for non-headliner though, probably subbing whichever act is most female-friendly.

so i guess gaga wasnt a true headliner in 2010 according to this logic?

the crowd for F+TM at bonnaroo last year was WAY WAY WAY too big for the tent they were playing at. and that was before the new album.

not saying that means they are definitely headliner material, but i wouldnt rule them out.

johnd, STOP. Version 7 is so unneccessary. It's been ridiculous for about 6 versions.

I know you have good intentions. But you're honestly just listing random bands that might be touring in 2012.

I thought VW was a little weak at Lolla 09. But I saw them twice on their Contra tour and, especially the Riviera show in March 2010, they were a fucking blast.

I would actually really look forward to a Vampire Weekend headlining show. Especially if their 3rd album is close to as good as the first two.

Agreed. VW was weak at Lolla which REALLY disappointed me. But they SERIOUSLY jammed up in Milwaukee in '08. I would totally be into them making a redeeming appearance in '12.

Given the other cities surrounding Krentist's leaked dates, that round will be stadiums/baseball parks. Boss will certainly play MSG, and for him to jump from NJ to Chicago means he'll be playing New Giants Stadium in the fall. Soldier Field also typically has a show or two between late July-early Sept...but booking a SF gig on the same night as the close of Lolla seems unlikely.

When his March/April arena tour gets announced we may have a better idea, but at the same time...TBK are playing the UC soon and we still seem to be pretty sure they're headlining.

thombjorke.
01-18-2012, 08:29 PM
I don't see how him playing a stadium show during Lollapalooza would be beneficial for him or the festival.

mgignac
01-18-2012, 08:34 PM
Well his touring schedule isn't going to revolve around whether or not it benefits Lollapalooza if he's not playing it, but yes- it doesn't benefit him to play Chicago that same weekend. As Krentist (I believe it was) said though, arena gigs do happen during that weekend, and who's to say.

Of course, throw all logic out the window, and New Giants Stadium could just be a one-stop-only thing, and he may be back doing one night stands in arenas...or he could be playing Wrigley.

Right now though I'm thinking he's a headliner.

Krentistthedentist
01-18-2012, 08:35 PM
There'd be too much soundbleed. Soldier Field and the South Stage are closer to each other than South and North are.

thombjorke.

Yeah but the arena show last year was Sade. I bet she has a lot less crossover appeal with the festival-going crowd than Bruce.

Plus it's in general hard to find 75k people to fill a stadium concert when there are already another 90-100k at another concert in the same city.
