IMO, Bruce doesn't make sense at Lolla. I can't think of a past single headliner like him.

this exactly. he is (was) an ACL and Roo headliner through and through.

I don't think that Bruce makes sense at Lolla either, but Lady Gaga wasn't like any headliner before her. Same could be said for Depeche Mode or Deadmau5.

I wouldn't ever expect for Bruce to be at Lolla, but I wouldn't be surprised if he ever is.

i'm agreeing with Carl that our #1 won't be a repeat of any headliner since the Chicagopalooza reboot.

rh is pretty much always a #1 headliner at every festival.

but they've only had 1 album out since they headlined in 2008. i don't see radiohead coming back anytime soon.
the Chicago gap in the tour doesn't mean a whole to me since the shows are in the first quarter of the year.

WretchedSkye2113
01-23-2012, 11:12 PM
why can't it be?

i don't credit c3 with that much taste. :p
it was honestly my first thought when Sabbath originally announced the reunion, new album, new tour and headlining Download.

my suspicions were weakened by the possibility of just another Ozzfest tour or that Sabbath/Metallica/Slipknot tour rumor.
then pretty much killed after Iommi's diagnosis.
then restrengthened after the "fact" that they were originally planned to headline Coachella.

ThePecanSandies

Black Sabbath seems a little old for Lollapalooza, but I think they are influential on enough of the previous headliners to be booked. Furthermore, I think songs like Iron Man, Paranoid, and War Pigs are recognizable enough for Sabbath to headline (god knows more kiddies know those songs than Enjoy the Silence or Personal Jesus). Also, that one guy had that reality TV show, which is a huge boost to this fest's demographic. Unlike many older headliners such as AC/DC, Bruce, U2, etc, Sabbath are probably in Lolla's price range. Not that the fest has any interest in distinguishing itself or being remotely interesting at this point, I think it would be a great "get"if this fest magically chooses not to be awful.
That said, i think it's highly unlikely that C3 does anything this cool and we will get similar teenage fag bands to the ones we had last year.

WretchedSkye2113
01-23-2012, 11:26 PM
Black Sabbath seems a little old for Lollapalooza

this was another big reason against their likelihood for me. they'd be the oldest headliner the fest has ever had.
granted it's not necessarily dadrock old, it still holds as hard rock and metal today and doesn't fall into the classic rock category like the older headliners of other festivals.

other reasons for: coachella and lollapalooza sharing headliners. lollapalooza's "reunited" band theory- which is also linked to the coachella reasoning.

WretchedSkye2113
01-23-2012, 11:30 PM
if tcv is working on a new album this year like some suspect, they could headline.
but everyone thought they would in 2010 with the tour and the 2009 aftershow, and then nada.

also, any incarnation of jack white could headline. maybe raconteurs will still be running.

Metallica is my best guess, but I don't think Kanye (possibly with JayZ) is out of the question. The reason I lean away from Kanye is because most people seem to be convinced that Drake will headline and they're not likely to have that much rap in the top 6.

I know there's been a debate about The Cure being close to Depeche Mode or Soundgarden in terms of size/legacy/relevance, but I personally think they can do it on a weak year. Keep in mind that the lineup has ups and downs in terms of how top-heavy the lineup is.

By the way, I started another thread/poll for this specific aspect of the speculation:

I don't think Justice and Metallica will oppose each other... Justice seemingly loves Metallica and almost always does some Metallica in their sets, so potentially in that case both sides of the park will be hearing Master of Puppets at the same time, if anything they can downgrade Justice to a sub and have them lead into Metallica if they are on the same day

2010 had great headliners though. I'm not going to think it's impossible for them to have good headliners just because of one down year.

Realistically I think it'll be somewhere in the middle between my "Pearl Jam/The Cure/Kanye" dream scenario and my "RHCP/Black Keys/Drake/blink-182" nightmare scenario.

I know they're a longshot, and extremely unlikely, but is there anyway Beastie Boys are a headliner option this year? Or are there too many other more-realistic hip-hop options to make them even remotely possible?

Does anyone think they'll eventually headline since they had to cancel in '09?

I guess I just don't see it. Of the people touring right now, the biggest/most expensive names to book have to be Roger Waters and Bruce Springsteen. Pearl Jam is certainly not cheap either, and I didn't even know about Brad Paisley.

I understand that they bring the money in, but how is Wrigley suddenly evolving from a place that does two shows a year TOPS, after a long hiatus, into somewhere that's booking Waters, Springsteen, Pearl Jam, and Paisley all in the same year. And I honestly can't see Springsteen only getting one show there- if they gave DMB two for that weekend in Sept., they'll give it to Bruce. Which means they're giving it to PJ as well.

I'm not surprised at the cash grab, just how popular it seems like it could start to get to have shows there. Which I don't like.

There was something special the last few years about hearing who would be playing the Wrigley show that summer...even though its not booked like a festival, when there's only one (two, tops) show there a year, you wait for the announcement of "who got it" just the same. At least all of my friends did. Nobody "oohs" and "ahs" when a band comes through at the UC, but when someone plays Wrigley Field its a bigger deal.

wait, and were they completely unaware of themselves the entire time?

It was pretty humorous. One of them claimed to be the biggest fan because he's seen them over 70 times, another because he appreciates "Pushit" and "Triad" the most, another because he claims to have full set videos of every single one of their shows, etc.

And a bunch of bickering like, "A true Tool fan would never complain about the setlist regardless!"

Would you ever complain about a PJ/Kanye setlist? If so you're not a true fan.

No, doubtful.

what if PJ played only covers of EV's shitty ukulele album?

No, doubtful.

Are you going to be attending every single show on all of their upcoming tours? If not, then you aren't a true fan (someone actually said that!).

So February 8th is when Kot leaked the first three last year... if that's the pace we're just about there.

Black Keys, Bjork, Mumford, Jay Z, uhh... Queens? I don't know shit about shit. Let's throw the Raconteurs out there too.

Tool should play because their set would be awesome even if they only played the various, lengthy interludes from all their albums.

he leaked 3 of the top 4, and hinted that there was another "big name" that he couldn't reveal yet that was in the works, so he knew the top 4.
if he does that again this year, we'll get the top line.

my highest hopes;
Sabbath or Metallica, The Cure or Bjork, Yeezy or The Trone.

any 2 of those 6 would make me so happy.

I mean, Friday, 2007.

deadmau5 was not precedent setting.

Disagree so much, but ok.

I have to say I doubt it's passion pit, BUT perry loves to have chicago bands play in chicago, and I think passion pit is from chicago, they did headline the largest chicago festival there is last year, taste of chicago, which is in grant park, and is bigger than lollapalooza

1. Less than ten percent of every Lolla lineup has been from Chicago.
2. Taste of Chicago is a free food festival that has some music. Its music lineup has no bearing on a festival where people pay to see bands.
3. C3 books the festival. Perry has little to no impact on booking.
4. Passion Pit didn't play it last year, they played in 2010. They did play last on their night, but they weren't advertised anywhere as a "headliner." Salt N Pepa were the biggest deal on the bill.
5. Passion Pit is from Massachusetts.

Welcome to the board.
