I mean, Friday, 2007.

deadmau5 was not precedent setting.

I thought Lady Gaga was Saturday, 2007, not Friday, 2007. Or at least, the show I saw her do on the BMI stage was on Saturday.

Deadmau5 is nowhere as big as Daft Punk. Size doesn't really matter when setting a precedent at the headliner level. But I think you're right about it being a one-time thing. I just want everyone to remember how bad it could conceivably be without drastically changing the identity of the fest.

one can only hope that neither are being considered.

Ke$ha played Lollapalooza before she was huge. The same was true of Lady Gaga, which is how a lot of people justify her returning as a headliner. Katy Perry has never played Lolla, although if C3 really wants to go in that direction, her Warped Tour run probably gives her enough cred in the eyes of the people making that decision. I doubt either Ke$ha or Katy Perry would be booked, so it's a non-issue until we have evidence to the contrary.

My last three conversations in the Lineup forum have been about Dave Matthews Band, buttrock bands piggybacking a Metallica booking, and Ke$ha. I think I'm just gonna not post here for a while.

For the record I would be extremely happy for all of them (aside from PP) to get confirmed- its not out of hatred, its out of being skeptical. The Cure show doesn't mean a damn thing except that they'll be in the states and that Symb bringing it up has some relevance.

I know the Cure playing MSG a couple days before Lolla doesn't confirm them. But it makes a lot of sense for them to play Lolla too, especially since they've only played LA and NYC recently.

That's exactly what grounds them as just as likely as they've ever been for me, not any MORE likely. They only really play LA and NYC....why, when another show pops up for NYC, do people think they're hopping on a plane to Lollapalooza?

I'm not saying it's not going to happen and that everyone's stupid for thinking so, cause I'd really love for them to be there, I just don't really understand why- Symb's mention not included- this makes them any more likely to be Lolla-bound.

I have a weird feeling that Marilyn Manson will be a headliner this year. They're doing a bunch of European fests in advance of the next album coming out, but were just announced as a headliner at Rock on the Range (May 18-20 in Columbus, OH). I've had a theory about them for awhile (they were one of the 3 bands picked to headlined Lolla '98 before it was cancelled, and both of the others -- NIN and Green Day -- have since headlined Chicagopalooza).
I'd be interested, anyway.

No Jane's.

The band is focused entirely on this theater concept, to the point Farrell says they're skipping the American festival circuit this summer, including Lollapalooza in Chicago, which he founded. "We're not gonna play it, but that's not to say that we won't be in Chicago," he says. The band will, however, be at the debut of Lollapalooza Brazil in April. "I like the idea of christening the place, 'cause Jane's christened Lolla, so I just kind of feel like it's a goodwill gesture." http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/perry-farrell-janes-addiction-tour-inspired-by-boardwalk-empire-era-20120131#ixzz1l99PTS3m

I think Incubus just got a raw deal at Bamboozle. Skrillex got bumped to top billing over Blink-182. The guy who created Bamboozle said something about it having to do with Skrillex being a returning act, I guess? AbsolutePunk blew up over it. Mac Miller is the highest billed hip-hop artist on the bill, and I think his promotion to headliner is just for the sake of *ahem* diversity.

I'd still put Incubus at low-level headliner status for Lolla, but high sub is certainly possible.
