View Full Version : It Starts Now: Volume Four - 2012 Lollapalooza Headliner Speculation

If he's against Metallica that'd be counter intuitive. It'd get louder the further back you go.
In that case I would not be at Bon Iver at all

02-22-2012, 06:56 PM
So, with Bon Iver playing Dour Fest in Belgium in mid july, I'm starting to suspect they could be the WTF #6 headliner.
http://www.dourfestival.be/en/lineup/
not really a wtf headliner. definitely a part of the #6 "rising star" slot crew.
and has played lolla before.
but i think we all assumed headlining pofo because of how hard pitchfork rode bon iver last year.
WretchedSkye2113
02-22-2012, 06:56 PM
and i'd be perfectly cool with bon iver headlining because it guarantees i won't have a conflict for at least 1 night.

This, definitely.
Throne + The Cure + The Killers
Jack White + Beck + Bon Iver
The Killers vs. Bon Iver
Throne vs. Jack White
The Cure vs. Beck
South stage all weekend for me, even though I sincerely believe on the complete off-chance The Cure gets booked, they're a north-stager.

02-22-2012, 07:12 PM
If Eddie Vedder played would he really headline? I feel like namewise he definitely would, but material-wise it seems like he'd sub for Bon Iver or something.
EDIT: The real reason I'm asking is because I really want Glen Hansard to be there in any capacity and Eddie getting booked could have some influence in him getting booked as well, maybe? I don't know.

Just read this quote, for what its worth. From late 2011.
A 2012 tour is also a possibility for Blur, according to NME, who write that Albarn “still gets an ‘amazing feeling’ from playing with Blur and hinted at plans to play live with the band— possibly outside the UK— next year.”

I see Passion Pit as a #6 before I see Florence anywhere on the Top6, but I also see Bon Iver getting the 6 slot so I think both will sub at this point. South stage sub for maybe even The Throne, and she'd draw an obscenely large crowd (IRT Florence obviously)

Eminem

Foo Fighters

Janes Addiction
Wilco

Arctic Monkeys
Beastie Boys
Talking Heads or The Smiths
The Black Keys
Smashing Pumpkins

I cannot confirm or deny that in public. Though I think I'm pretty safe in denying New Order as a completely laughable concept.
I'm well aware of what this year's booking budget for North Coast is like, and while I'm not exactly sure what New Order charges... I'm fairly comfortable ruling them out on cost alone.
again, ill ask someone more familiar than myself for good measure.

Dang, that's kind of disappointing, but not surprising. I would have liked to see New Order.
Also, I just want to clarify. Did we really give up on Radiohead as a headliner...? Not in the US at the end of July, but all the same, with no Chicago date wouldn't they be an obvious possibility?
MookieDaddy

There's a strongly rumored June Chicago date for Radiohead. Plus, no other band has headlined the three big majors in the same year. Not going to happen.

There's really no logic that arrives at New Order from having David Guetta on the top line last year....
North Coast is a jamtronica festival. New Order doesn't even fit the conventional mold that has sold out the park for them the last two years.
I'm a huge New Order fan btw... but that seems pretty unlikely to me.
WretchedSkye2113
02-23-2012, 11:35 AM
given up? not at all.
i think a lot of us are expecting another leg to be announced soon including a Chicago date.
they were a #1 in 08 and would be a #1 again this year- meaning we'd have a repeat #1, they have only had one album (with 8 tracks) be released since their last headlining show, and it's only been 4 years- which seems a bit early.
not impossible at all, but it wouldn't be the most unique booking on C3's part. especially when RH is already headlining Coachella and Bonnaroo. at that point it would make RH seem very un#rare and the trendy festival whores aka The Black Keys.

they're hitting the midwest pretty hard soon.
it's early enough in the year that they can't be ruled out by any means, especially for a band who never fucking stops touring,

It depends what mood I'm in.
I think Brothers is a better album though. I went back to that all last year while I haven't listened to El Camino at all this year. Got over it really quick.

Pearl Jam / Metallica / Rage / Tool / NIN / Soundgarden
Switch Rage and Metallica if it's not part of a giant tour.
Switch Tool and NIN if it's a comeback show for NIN.
