irt to the yeah yeah yeahs what have they done in those 3 years though? put out a mediocre at best album? they wouldn't be in the top 6 with a year like that. switch them with maybe primus or bon iver and thats about where they belong. also that top 6 is kinda what they did this year with 4 heavy hitters and 2 average fest headliners. granted the top 3 there is bigger than em, foos, and coldplay but blink isn't as big as muse so in theory this lineup is possible

YYY"S last album was their most popular and in 2007 they were higher than you have them. If they ever play again, they'll either have a 75 minute subheadlining spot or a headlining spot.
Also in terms of next year I think it is looking somewhat likely that this could happen
Radiohead- Jay Z and Kanye West- Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Black Keys- Blink 182- Vampire Weekend (or Death Cab)
Radiohead vs Blink 182
RHCP vs. The Black Keys
Jay Z and Kanye vs. Vampire Weekend.

wouldn't switching them with Primus make them a subheadliner? i'm not saying they would be a midcard level act i just don't think that with a year like the one proposed or even the one you suggest i don't see how they could be a headliner in that situation. Also wouldn't blink be above the black keys?

That lineup is actually fairly believable, although I can't see Jane's Addiction headlining. I mean, if they aren't doing the goddamn 20th anniversary, why would they do the 21st? Actually, typing this, I realize they might since Lollapalooza can then legally drink... Also I don't see Weezer as subbing. They'd be 5th or 6th if anything.

It was the same for that Weezer/Blink tour...co-headliners, Weezer just went on first. I believe it's also supposed to be the same for the Weezer/Flaming Lips shows this summer, Weezer will clearly draw more people, but they're playing first in a co-headlining setup because of the mess Flaming Lips makes on stage. Or at least that's what I've heard, anyway.

They were fourth on the Roo lineup, if there popularity continues to rise I don't think South Stage is really that crazy of a possibility in the future.
Still would think the 4th slot (1st north stage slot) would be most likely though.

Bon Iver- The Decemberists- Lupe Fiasco- The Shins- Avett Brothers
Passion Pit- Band of Horses- Robyn- Alice in Chains- Biffy Clyro- PJ Harvey- M83
You've got 14 bands on that line-up that will probably play Aragon (or a bigger venue) on their next go around (maybe the Shins have dropped down in popularity but everyone else except Robyn, Biffy, PJ - who would play the Riv and M83 could). Too soon for Radiohead to return, Avetts would headline (lol at side stage), Passion Pit are borderline headliners not side stage (Friday is far too stacked), Alice In Chains would sub at least (already played an Aragon show, why the fuck are Biffy subs after playing the Double Door?), Bon Iver just might sub if not being a 6 but Band of Horses are probably subs at this point (sold out Riv pretty far in advance of their show).
Also even in theory if a sub could play Aragon (like the Decemberists) I doubt a scenario arises where all of the subs are that big. Probably we'll get 8 acts total that can draw 4,000 people to a show.

i have no doubt that mau5's headlining slot was all Perry's doing.
i could see the bigger names asking C3/Perry to play Lolla, but the smaller 4-6 slots have to be C3 actively looking for bands to headline...

Yeah I guess. But that combined with the fact that I don't think they've gotten any more popular since 09 just makes me think it won't happen next year.
well they haven't toured or put out a new album since 09 either. i'd be very surprised if both of those things don't happen next year.
also we're talking about the raconteurs who are basically in the same position, so i don't know why one's likely and the others not realistic.

my only justification for Rac's over YYY's is the one 1 year difference in time between they headlined and now.
both seem possible though.
but i'd much rather have Rac's ;)
Broc1123
08-09-2011, 10:51 AM
Yeah there's just a different feel with the Racs. To me, 08 seems like forever ago and so does the last time the Raconteurs were active. But 09 and seeing the YYYs at Lolla doesn't at all.
It'd be pretty cool if we got Racs and YYYs instead of Keys and VW but we all know that won't happen.

has anyone received that e-mail asking you which bands you want for next year yet?
i wonder if they ever show the results of last year's poll.

i don't think they released the info from the 2010 edition, so I wouldn't expect it this year.

i could even see a black keys south stage/the cure on north regardless of billing order.
also agree that as bad as the headliners were, the subs were even worse. easily the worst group of 6:30/7:30 bands ever.
speaking of which, how did the dj's closing the band shell work out? successful enough that it'll happen again next year?
and i'd say that unless justice gets a lot bigger w/ their new one, i could see them play perry's at this point.
Dani Deahl was such a small crowd that I thought the dj had cancelled. With that said, I thought the dj idea was an absolute flop

An absolute flop because they had small crowds? I think that was the idea. I would prefer that they put something along the lines of a BMI stage sized band but otherwise I think the plan worked.

the Sony and Playstation stages had some of the biggest crowds of the weekend.
Naked & Famous and TDCC were painful to walk through on the South side.
Cage the Elephant's looked stupid big for that stage. i think the idea was to put the hard rock bands there to reduce moshing/crowd surfing, but those bands just pull in too big of a crowd.

You guys think I'm completely wrong, here my revision which is pretty accurate IMO:
Jay Z / R.E.M. / The Killers /
Red Hot Chili Peppers / Death Cab For Cutie / Jane's Addiction
Non-Headliners: The Black Keys, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Odd Future (OFWGKTA), The Kooks, Passion Pit, Sleigh Bells, The Hood Internet
Who definitely WONT be playing: Blink182, Metallica, Cee Lo Green
Artists that are putting out a new album soon or have recently released an album and are touring: RHCP, Death Cab 4 Cutie, Jane's Addiction, The Killers (they've been in the studio since May), The Black Keys, Passion Pit, The Kooks, Sleigh Bells (they canceled their Lolla performance that was scheduled this year to work on their next album...they're basically guaranteed)
Artists that have been gaining significant popularity, might release some new, or have played pitchfork recently: Odd Future, Passion Pit, The Hood Internet
Educated guesses: REM, Jay Z, Yeah Yeah Yeah's
WOULD YOU LIKE ANY MORE JUSTIFICATION???

Beats Antique had a decent sized crowd on Saturday, but I think they were a little different from a straight-up DJ, in that they had live instruments and are, well, good.

It pissed me off because to get a good spot for a headliner you needed to be there at like 5pm. Also, they didn't book three acts that could/should have been Primus/Jimmy Eat World and someone else.

Crimson's Buzz or Greg just trying to rile us up. There's no way someone would otherwise say RHCP is a #4 or there's no way Blink is playing.

Let it go already. They didn't not book Primus/JEW/Or someone else because Dani Deahl, Beats Antique, and DJ Mel were on the line-up. It was a decision on their part to help alleviate crowd issues and it worked.

and replace RH with RHCP and you're on to something

i'd guess that the lolla brazil and lolla chile line-ups next year will be very similar since they're a week apart. and because the killlers played lolla chile this year, i don't see them returning to santiago or going on to brazil next year.

I do not think MGMT will be back next year. They tend to not bring back bands within 2 years that everyone got to see the previous time. They bring back bands who were on too small of a stage for them or have blown up in popularity since. MGMT had a pretty high-profile spot last year.
