i'm feeling really certain that TBK is a 3 at this point and that Beck is a 4.
historical conflicts show that these two should be against each other this year.
i will be so happy to see Beck.
and then the #1 and #2. which is hopefully something nice and rawklike (that isn't RHCP) and something poppy but not shitty like Gaga or Em.

I cannot see The Black Keys closing the south stage on Sunday. They are either south stage on Friday (against the rumored EDM headliner) or North on Sunday imo.

putting them against the likes of Bon Iver or SHM (if those were #5 and 6, let's say) doesn't make much sense as far as conflicting crowds go.
and they're too big to go against Throne or Metallica.
TBK on the South and Beck on the North seems like a good crowd splitting decision.

so not to bark up this tree again, but-
given what we've discussed about Sabbath and Metallica so far,
i think i'm still leaning towards Sabbath playing because
C3 is clearly still deliberating on something and keeping everything hush, meaning that BS isn't necessarily out yet,
we know that Sabbath is still doing (at least one) Sabbath shows this year among the Ozzy & friends tour at Download,
and Sharon, if she's to be believed (she isn't), did use the words "Black Sabbath" when she spilled the rumor about the August show.
so maybe that "B" fest idea wasn't such a bad idea.

Why do we think RHCP will be there?
When RHCP announced make-up shows in CA in August between overseas legs they assumed it was because they had to come back to the states for Lolla. And the tour is booked by C3. I never believed it. They're a lock for ACL, though (unless they booked more shows I didn't know about)

I'm thinking things will shake out like this:
Friday - Swedish House Mafia vs. Jack White (or The Black Keys or maybe Beck)
Saturday - Watch the Throne vs. Wilco (or Jack White or Sigur Ros)
Sunday - Pearl Jam (or Metallica or RHCP) vs. Sigur Ros (or Bon Iver or maybe Beck)
I don't think RHCP would be #1, they are certainly not bigger than Greenday was 2 years ago or Muse last year. I see them as a solid saturday night act. Perhaps Beck Friday, RHCP Saturday, TBK Sunday ? Not sure they would have them close the weekend since they just played, but I don't see RHCP closing either.

Seeing as I'm probably more of a "kiddie" than most people on this board, I can say that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are in fact bigger with the kids. More people are going to the upcoming RHCP concert here than any concert I can remember over the past few years. They might be older but they are still beloved by teenagers.

That's stupid.
Muse is one of the few bands I honestly have no fucking idea how anyone likes them, especially enough where they could headline Lollapalooza. Twice.
And while the Chilis are at least 14 years past their prime (and depending on argument, longer), they will sell out every venue they play in America, which Muse could not.

I know this was talked about a little while ago but here are my thoughts:
1) I don't know about a "shitty" edm headliner, but I am pretty confident there will be an EDM headliner and here is why:
My friend studies music tech at university of Miami (the one actually in florida, not ohio) and he met a promoter for ultra the other day (not sure the context of the meeting, I think it was for a class maybe). So my friend is chatting up the promoter about what he does and how he gets people to play at ultra, and my friend tries to turn the conversation to lolla headliners. The promoter says he knows them all but he can't tell, BUT to count on a big, really good EDM headliner on friday, comparable to deadmau5 (disagree if you must about the "really good" part). My friend asks if its going to be daft punk, and the promoter says no, they're not playing ANYTHING until they finish their new album, release it, and tour for it. I think you guys already ruled them out, but here's more evidence I guess. BUT. I think this means that shitty or not, EDM headliner on friday is credible.
Also, tbk seems nearly inevitable at this point
2) I agree
so EDM vs TBK on friday with odd future at perry's?

The "really big" EDM could have just been a reference to Justice by a guy with good taste, and didn't someone sort of figure out their scheduling made since for Perry's? Other than that, who's even "really big" and considered to be "really good"? Aviici?
Don't start your SHM shit with me.

SHM stands for the Society of Hospital Medicine; we're terrified that their travelling informational booth with be Lolla's first headlining info session as opposed to live music act.

No way do Beyonce, Bjork and No Doubt all headline in the same year. That's way too many broad headliners for Lolla. Also Miike Snow and Gotye would be higher.

When you see "equine", you should think "cauda equina" which roughly translates to "horse tail". It's the name given to the free nerve endings at the base of the spine that are not wrapped by a protective outer coating. These are the nerve endings that must be avoided when collecting spinal fluid (aka a "spinal tap"). The prefix Myelo- either refers to the myelin sheath which covers the axons of most projection neurons or the new Coldplay album. And encephalo usually means fluid build-up/swelling. So, I'm going to guess that Equine Degenerative Myeloencephalopathy refers to some sort of swelling of the myelin sheath around the caudal region of the spinal cord.

Well, I was wrong. It actually happens in horses. Has nothing to do with the cauda equina.

If this actually was the lineup I think the headliner and subs would breakdown like this.
(The Shins) The Black Keys vs (Sigur Ros) Bjork
(Florence) Beyonce vs (Bon Iver) Beck
(Passion Pit) No Doubt vs (ATDI) Metallica

Without reading 575 pages of posts....am i correct in assuming that no one has ANY real evidence that Beck may be playing at Lolla other than that he is playing two other festivals this year?
also, i think the Shins would headline north stage if they play. hopefully against RHCP.
