Saturday: Kanye West vs Raconteurs vs Widespread Panic vs MSTRKRFT

*day: south vs north vs google+ vs Perry's

WSP is too big to be a Google+ band.

Audiobully

Chemical could headline the new Perrys next year which will more than likely expand yet again. I could then see Justice headlining the north
end one night. Something like:

Red Hot Chili Peppers * Beastie Boys * Blink-182
Jane's Addiction * The Black Keys * Justice

Beastie Boys are way, way, way overdue.

Edit: does anyone else have words double post for no reason lately? Why is 'north' showing up twice???

i don't get it.

WHY DON'T YOU GET ANY OF MY POSTS.

Was just saying Hazards bumped them somewhat into the mainstream going on indie crowd. The last album stalled that path (probably a little too country). They should have been able to sell out Aragon. They couldn't.

And yes Radiohead would be ahead of Metallica. Albums sold do not matter when it comes to Radiohead. I don't care about C3s ridiculous billing of Coldplay this year but at least in Chicago they play to more people than Metallica.

BECAUSE I AM A RACIST.

also, but didn't The King is Dead sell the best out of any of their records so far? I thought it hit #1 for a week or so.

i was more "the fuck you talking, son?" the idea of Radiohead playing Lolla ever again, let alone next year.
but on that debate, i think RH and Metallica would be a very close 1 and 2. it may be 2011, but Metallica will have new material out next year and they have a ridiculous fan base as well.
both have headlined lolla before and both have huge fan bases. since Lolla attracts a more indie crowd, you're probably right that RH would take #1, but i don't think that should be an absolute rule...yet.

I think the Decemberists would have sold out the Aragon if it had been any other time of the year besides Pitchfork/Lolla season. People just don't have extra money to spend for random concerts unless you are a big fan. And it's not even just the money, going to Lolla or Pitchfork is enough for most people for a month.

But I do not think the Decemberists have the buzz around them that is needed to be the tweener headliner for Lolla. I'd be perfectly content with a 75 min set before a headliner for them.

A lot of bands they put on that stage at night this year seemed too big, though. MGMT has already been a subheadliner but I didn't think they're quite big enough to be a mainstage headliner yet.

edit: Perry's headliner maybe?
edit 2: (also their crowds would be diminished by the North and South headliners)

A lot of bands they put on that stage at night this year seemed too big, though. MGMT has already been a subheadliner but I didn't think they're quite big enough to be a mainstage headliner yet.

This logic doesn't make sense. Subheadliner is a bigger slot than Grove closer. Look at the poster. People have been suggesting ridiculous names for the Grove closers thinking they are the next biggest acts after the main stage headliners.

Is this still the case though? Cold War Kids (Sunday Grove headliner) were seventh on the final poster lineup.

Actually, "poster" was the wrong word. They're seventh on the lineup at lineup.lollapalooza.com -- I assumed the poster was the same, but I haven't actually seen it.

Why don't I think Blink182 will play? For several reasons. They won't be playing any festivals like Lolla because they made their own tour with My Chemical Romance, Manchester Orchestra, and Matt & Kim so that's basically a mini festival in itself. Also their forthcoming album is most likely going to suck, considering the songs they've already released, and C3 isn't going to book a band that's only riding on material from 2001 or earlier. By the time their current tour is over, they'll probably start booking a bunch of international dates like Europe, Australia, and South America and after that probably go back into another hiatus. Mark my words, Blink182 will NOT be at lollapalooza next year.

yeah actually that particular Green Day set included a ton of older material.

Going back and looking, it was split pretty evenly. My count is 14 from American Idiot & 21st Century; 12 from all their other albums.

But the fact that they were able to put together a set where more than half of it pulled from their last two albums kinda shows they aren't reliant on pre-2001 stuff. Which is more my point. Yes, they play older stuff but they are popular because of and reliant on new stuff. They aren't filling arenas with people looking to hear Dookie straight through. It's kids who love American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown.

That's my take at least.

Give Perry one more electronic headliner next year, maybe he'll get his three the year after.

Metallica * Red Hot Chili Peppers * Björk
Orbital * Jane's Addiction * Tiësto

(The Knife) Björk vs Tiësto [Grove: How to Destroy Angels]
(Queens of the Stone Age) Metallica vs Orbital [Grove: MGMT]
(Lil' Wayne) RHCP vs Jane's [Grove: Foster the People]

1) Orbital wouldn't be fucking billed above Weezy

Them not caring about making money?

a profit can be turned on that lineup.

For shits and giggles I tried to find a way to make that lineup fit into the schedule/stage layout Lolla has used in the past, and it just made my head hurt.

in an effort to relieve your rattle, the lineup works as follows:

sabbath through rye rye are the mains. top line is south. second is north. alternate lines make up the day. friday through sunday moves left to right.

eagles of death metal through d'angelo make up side stage closers (still need to add one).

remainder play the field.

perry's.

eno plays second to last. one album a night. left to right.

second line closes out the night.

Hm, that does relieve quite a bit.

Guess my only real concern left is the idea of acts Portishead and Massive Attack playing the daytime in grant park, talk about bad venues. Although I suppose an even less than perfect set from them is better than a lot of things that could get put in that slot, so hey...

I do like how you have Perry's.

Portishead vs PJ might be worse than Muse vs Coldplay.

Yeah pretty awesome lineup except there are too many specific albums and why the fuck would Guns n' Roses be there or even a 3rd?

Seriously?
You do realize that they just headlined Reading and Leeds last year?

I didn't know that, but that must have been a terrible year for Reading and Leeds then : P

I hadn't seen every act on this year's grant park lolla, nik. I just didn't want to pay my hard earned money for eminem, coldplay, skrillex, and sam adams, none of whom I care about.
