I understand that I've upset you somehow, but I've been saying this for weeks, before the June leg was announced, and learned it 3-4 months ago from someone who also advised that they would be playing Coachella and Bonnaroo. FYI.
Further proving that you just made that post to talk about your "insider sources" yet again. No one cares, really. It was more or less accepted by the majority of the board that Radiohead would not be playing long before you even joined here.

Jay-Z * Red Hot Chili Peppers * System of a Down
The Black Keys * Beck * Bjork
Shins -> TBK v SoaD <- AtDI
Common -> Jay-Z v Bjork <- Sigur Ros
Florence + the Machine -> RHCP v Beck <- Passion Pit
edit: would have SoaD billed over TBK because rare, but still have TBK playing the South. a la muse/coldplay last year.
Could SOAD open for Metallica ? I would say they are about as big as APC at this point...4 or 5 years ago def headliner. I've also heard they are not very good live by multiple people.

This. Justice will hold that #6 spot despite the fact that the act just below them on the poster (Florence+Machine, At the Drive In) could be considered bigger in size.
Similar to the Deadmau5 and A Perfect Circle scenario of last year.

That last part is debateable. They had 7 acts on the top two lines last year and the first 6 headlined. However, they listed Coldplay before Muse despite Muse playing the larger South stage. I don't see any reason why they couldn't have listed Deadmau5 after APC and still gave Deadmau5 the headlining spot. I think you underestimate Deadmau5 or overestimate the continued relevance of that particular Maynard project.

Surprised Incubus is mentioned more often in here. No Chicago date this summer (Milwaukee in May). Would they even headline at this point? Don't think I'd want them taking a headliner spot, but also not sure who they would lead into from the already-pondered candidates.
Also - Can't recall they them ever playing any of the major US fests, which seems odd

Yet bamboozle is a annual fest which does get bands from all over the world. And No, they could not headline their day on Bamboozle regardless of what people enjoy or think is better. Maybe 10 years ago they could have.
MichaelDW
03-17-2012, 12:55 PM
They are against Mac Miller if that is the current Bamboozle format... who I don't think is better than Incubus but are more popular currently.
Bamboozle always does a night of Super new popular (Skrillex) / Previous generation but still Popular (Bon Jovi) / Current generation up there popular (Foo) as their end of night headliners.
MichaelDW

I was there a few years ago with Snoop Dogg as the Headliner the night i was there.
Kinda interesting because they have the normal demographics you'd expect to see at a fest, but i saw an awful lot of parents with their kids. So it was awkward and funny when Snoop yelled something like, "I hope ya'll brought your weeeeeeed! Get it up! Lemme see it!" and everyone cheered and there were dads staring at their daughters like 'Excuuuuse me?!'

I'm pretty sure Mac Miller got a bump at Bamboozle because he's the biggest hip hop act this year. The promoter said something about "loyalty" and "paid dues" playing a large part in billing Skrillex over Blink-182. Their billing order can't be trusted.
Incubus is probably a #6 or a weak #5 at Lolla, but seeing them as a sub this year wouldn't surprise me. They could actually be billed higher than Sigur Ros or Justice, but play a sub slot.

Someone previous posted about who Perry follows on Twitter. Anyway, I looked and why in the hell would Perry be following Sharon Osborne? The two others I found interesting were Billy Corgan (I thought Billy and Perry didn't get along) and Depeche Mode. I know DM could be followed because of their past performance, but, long story short, could VCMG be the EDM headliner?
I put the odds on this at about 5%, but how about Atoms for Peace? Radiohead and RHCP have radius issues that make it impossible/improbable that they'll play, but both have gaps in their schedules at just the right time. Not to mention AFP is supposed to have an album ready to come out sometime in 2012.
Again, way unlikely, but scoring an AFP one-off would be pretty huge.

It's been stated that Radiohead is a no-go for many, many reasons. Pretty much everything except for Thom Yorke to publicly state that 'Radiohead is NOT playing lollapalooza in 2012' has pulled them from contention. Just because they have time off after finishing a tour doesn't mean it's a suspicious 'schedule gap'.
RHCP on the other hand. I was under the impression that they were pretty solid. More evidence they would, than evidence they wouldn't. But ya' never know until it's official I suppose.
You'll notice I didn't actually suggest Radiohead would play... Atoms for Peace is a supergroup made up of members of Radiohead and RHCP. I'm not even suggesting anything suspicious for AFP playing, just pointing out that their touring schedules wouldn't prohibit them playing.
MichaelDW
03-18-2012, 11:05 AM
Gotcha, and yes I am aware of who Atoms for Peace are. Maybe it could work. Are enough people into/aware of AFP though?
The only issue with that, is that if RHCP plays and RH isn't there ... and AFP wouldn't be known by enough people for a decent spot, that means Yorke and Co. would do a few guest songs cutting into RHCP set time. That's the question promoters need to ask - do we want to knock 15 min off the RHCP set for some AFP songs?
Could be cool though.

Edit: but it still seems pretty improbable

Because she's the star of a reality tv show?

that would never happen. it makes no sense.
also everyone stop talking about rhcp or this is going to become a self fulfilling prophecy.

Would love that but I doubt it. I just hope they (Thom) finishes the album this year at this point with how busy Radiohead and RHCP are

That may have made her a more recognizable persona to the general public but it hardly defines her. She has a certain amount of clout in the industry, why wouldn't Perry follow her? Who knows what sort of personal connection they might have. Sharon gets around and I think she's quite well respected and well liked within the biz.

The reason I mentioned Depeche Mode. It's Vince Clark and Martin Gore's side project.
http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2012/03/listen-debut-album-vcmg
tldr: Martin Gore is still in Depeche Mode. Vince Clark left DM right after their first album, and went on to form Erasure. Collaborating for the first time in 30 years, they recorded the whole VCMG album by sending tracks back and forth via e-mail.
A VCMG tour would be cool since they didn't even talk on the phone until the album was done (and a one-off would be even cooler), and it would be a fun set because the album is great. But it would only be a big deal to people who care about that stuff (me), and no one has any idea how a live set would work or if it would be weird. That doesn't sound like a headliner.
Think it might work as a Grove/NotPerry's closer though? Cause that'd be neat...

I agree. Looking back we always got that before (or around) SXSW. And we could really use it about now. There doesn't seem to be a single speculated headliner with even 90% certainty at this point. Plenty with better than 50/50 odds due to tour schedules etc., but it would be nice to have something more verified than that.

I'm not really that familiar with them. I know they're a big deal in Europe, but I seriously doubt they're a headliner in the US for anything other than maybe Coachella. I don't think they could be enticed to play Lolla, but I'm totally talking out of my ass here.

I feel like their following in the states is even less than Pulp. I guess this wouldn't be the first time Lolla got an act that headlines in Europe for a much smaller slot here though.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEKOSXsYhVk
I think it comes down to whether or not Stone Roses has a desire to come to the states. If so, a Lolla slot would probably be the best option for them financially. Don't think Lolla would throw enough money at them to change their mind about coming to the states though.

While I agree with your logic that the recent leaks suggest the lineup (and most likely the daily breakdown) is more final, I just wanted to clarify that, from what I understand, bands (especially the bigger ones) are not "allowed" to talk about playing Lolla until the official announcement. The ones that share info early either don't know or don't care about that.

Too lazy to go back and re-read the last few pages to see if this has been posted (No...I'm not going to leak Kaskade):
Happened upon a pre-show for the MTV Woodie awards last night, they were interviewing Walk the Moon, and as part of the interview one of the band members said something to the effect:

i mean there is VERY little in the spectrum of C3 bands that i don't like, so i doubt they'll grab a top 6 that "doesn't do it for me."
but, i think i agree with you that it'll be a weaker top few lines and then a really solid set of subs/afternoon bands.

No one's saying they're a headliner, this discussion is just in the wrong place as usual...

I don't think anyone's calling Bloc Party a mainstage headliner. Grove headliner maybe.
I could see that happening

The Shins -> The Black Keys v Beck <- Garbage
Bloc Party -> Red Hot Chili Peppers v Bjork <- Sigur Ros
At the Drive-In -> System of a Down v EDM <- Florence + the Machine
idfuckingk.

Bloc Party would be an awesome Grove closer. I could maybe see them subbing, but not with all the possible subs we've been throwing around already (Shins, Passion Pit, maybe even Flo). Garbage I still see as a 4:00 or something. I feel like now they're comparable to how the Cars were last year in popularity.
Edit: Doesn't look too bad Wretched, but how does Florence>EDM work lol?

I don't see Bloc Party being a Grove closer, only because their last show here was at the Aragon (pretty sure it was nearly sold out). Just too big of a band for that area again.

so cut down the trees and make the Grove area bigger?

I feel like it's going to happen today if it happens. I have absolutely nothing to base that off of though.
It's a Monday (seems like the day they do things)....
Site changes by today with a sale tomorrow (first day of spring).

I know this was already discussed, but I feel they will wait till tomorrow before anyone starts leaking anything. My reasoning for that is if the Black Keys ARE playing, they'll leak it after their show at the United Center tonight.
