1. If someone was putting this much time into a fake (adding in all those tiny bands at the end and making sure to spell everything right and bill everything in a decent place) they would probably try to spread out the hip hop.
2. Bonnaroo had Mac Miller and Childish Gambino right next to each other on the lineup this year. It looked weird but whatever.

Shouldn't there be more random acts that we haven't expected? Aren't there always a few surprises on the bill? Where are those on this alleged one? It's almost too obvious.

I would be thrilled to see Sabbath at Lolla, and I hope this leak is true, but is it certain that they would have to headline?? Did anyone consider them as a Sub headliner, simply because when they toured in 2004 they only played about 60 minute shows, and I find it hard to believe they'd be playing much longer than that these days. Like two of them have cancer, no? And Ozzy can't stand up that long. They're definitely big enough to headline, but I don't know how much time they would fill. Then again, the strokes only did 75 minutes, so who knows.

Cool. I also preferred the Beatles when I was younger but grew into the Stones. Not in my 20s though. I grew to prefer them a little earlier than that.
When I was driving home tonight, Steve Van Zandt was playing a bunch of Faces songs since he's inducting them into the RnR HoF.

And in regards to your question, Sabbath is big enough to headline, therefore they will headline. I feel like Ozzfest sets are always pretty short. Can someone back me up on this?

I liked the Stones before my 20s, but in my 20s they passed the Beatles. I'm glad to hear the faces are reuniting for the induction. Hopefully a tour will come out of it.

Some of the shows Sabbath played in 2005 weren't Ozzfest dates, like the European tour, and they still only played about 11 or 12 songs tops. I'm sure they'd still headline either way because of how rare it is to see them, but I really wouldn't mind them as a Sub Headliner. I just don't think they could fill the time. Hopefully they'll prove me wrong.

An incomplete list of reasons to be skeptical of this list:
- No Kimbra, Odd Future, Steel Pulse, Features, or Lumineers
- Dr. Dog plays in Oregon during Lolla weekend
- Top EDM acts not apparently among the top six (and Bassnectar at Perry's?)
- Black Keys listed before Black Sabbath
- "Clumping" of acts - various Alpha pairings (slightly broken up), Dawes/Die Antwoord/Wale (all CTA hints), Gary Clark Jr/Alabama Shakes (suspicious roots/soul pairing), etc.
- Lots of acts plucked from Chicago-area dates coinciding with the lineup announcement (which happens, sure, but the very large percentage is suspicious), and other similar indicators of picking bands who have yet to fill in their summer schedules (and not just around Lolla)

Very good analysis. We could argue about each point (and probably have), but all in all, we certainly have reason to be suspicious. FTR, I never said I believed it 100%, but if it is a fake, it's pretty impressive.

I'm glad you didn't list the Delta Spirit repeat as a strike against the validity. As several people have pointed out, there is a precedent for that (in very rare cases).

Driftwood
04-09-2012, 08:10 AM
Add to that the extremely unprecedented overlap with the Coachella EDM line-up this year.

Avicii, Justice, Porter Robinson, Flux Pavillion, Zedd, Zed's Dead, Kaskade, Calvin Harris, Nero, Madeon, Sub Focus ...

Also Perry's seems short on acts compared to other years (only 21 - had 26, 36, 27 last 3 years. Sets started earlier in 2010 across the board).

carligula
04-09-2012, 08:32 AM
Yeah, in 2005, the scheduling was different and the fest only took up half the area. The Pixies were the #1 act that year (back when their return was still fresh). On Friday, Killers (#4) played MAIN East, then Widespread Panic (#2) played their second set on MAIN West. On Saturday, Pixies (#1) played MAIN East, then Weezer (#3) played MAIN West. Many of us wish they would go back to that format where the top 2 acts of the day played at different times.

For the record, not that it probably matters in the scheme of things, but Sigur Ros would consider it a life dream to open for Black Sabbath.

The first song Jónsi learned how to play on guitar was Wrathchild by Iron Maiden, at the age of 13. Iron maiden remains one of Jónsi's favourite bands today. Orri's (the drummer's) favorite band has been Black Sabbath from an early age.

I mean if you give the bands some sort of say so in when and where they get to play, they would jump at this for just about anything.

It would be great if this allowed Sigur Ros a longer set time due to the shorter set times of Black Sabbath.

My Lolla guess:

Sabbath - Kanye (performs almost all of MBDTF, 30 - 45 min G.O.O.D. music showcase) - Jack White (first show with male backing band for half set, female backing band for half set)
Black Keys - Justice - SHM

Weezer played after them, therefore Weezer headlined, I don't care if it was on a different stage a few yards away, Weezer played last.

Sorry if this has already been brought up, but if the latest leaked lineup turns out to be real, I think it'll turn out to be an incomplete version. Meaning, I still think we'll get two more big headliners tomorrow, which would push ATDI and Florence to sub slots. I still think we'll get Kanye and/or Jay and another mainstream rock act like the Killers.

I saw fun. live twice before this album came out and The Format live once, so I agree with you. Yeah, the Runaway influence is strong with the closer. It's a bit sad, actually. Not because I dislike Runaway but because it's such a poor fit for their sound.

I dislike Some Nights for the same reasons that I dislike The Big Pink's new one...it sounds really plastic, cold and radio-friendly without delivering much of what I liked about the band in the first place. Not sure what I'm going to do for either of those sets (assuming FUN. shows up).

Justice is more famous/popular (I think?) but they have a really simple stage setup. Bassnectar has a pretty big and elaborate light show. I could kind of see it going either way.

I know next to nothing about EDM, but Bassnectar seems to play similar, or even larger, venues than Justice. So why would Justice demand a mainstage headlining slot while Bassnectar is relegated to Perry's if both are indeed on the lineup?

This makes a lot of sense to me. If the billing looks anything like the "leak" then I'm thinking more and more that Justice and Avicii will both close down the North field on Sunday against Santigold and Sabbath. Friday will be Keys vs ATDI vs. Basnectar and Saturday will be RHCP vs. JW vs. Kaskade.

Bassnectar is also promoted by C3 so they may want to showcase them on a main stage.

So you are giving ATDI a headliner spot based on the billing but not Florence? That makes no sense.

Wow, Keys vs. ATDI would be a pretty rough choice for me.

ATDI and Florence aren't headliners.

I'm thinking ATDI subs for either RHCP or Jack White. Florence gets the 6th headliner spot.

I count 123 band names on that piece of paper....

Why is Avicii Sunday? Why is she billed way above Avicii but not headlining?

If that's the headliners and I can see Keys, White, and Sabbath I'll be happy. I just hope there is a headliner that hasn't been speculated to death, so I can feel some sort of surprise.

Wow people trashing my Madonna headliner slot yet still refusing page after page to believe that RHCP will be one of the headliners...absolutely unreal how some of you people have supposed legitimacy on this board.

It has to do simply with past rules why they are refusing to believe RHCP will be there...and they are trashing your talk because you only have 11 posts.

By now he obviously knows the lineup though.

And btw, yes the sheet of paper has 124 names.

OMG I just saw the html code for the lineup site. It was up for a few seconds. I saw The Cure, Watch the Throne, Black Sabbath, The Black Keys, Avicii, and Florence and the Machine as the top 6. OMGOMGOMG
