View Full Version : It Starts Now: Volume Four - 2012 Lollapalooza Headliner Speculation

Questionable subs in the last few years: Hot Chip, Cee-Lo, Ween, Wolfmother, Bloc Party, Thievery Corp
That's true
I still think they would be a 4:00 main stage act though
I have never seen them so I would be down with them at Lolla
IAmScareMongering

I don't really remember Ween, Bloc Party, or Thievery Corporation being discussed as questionable subs (although I wasn't on the board in '08).

No I remember there being some discussion about whether or not Bloc Party was big enough to be a sub in 2008
C3 blew their load booking 4 huge headliners so the subs were pretty small
Sort of like this year

Just a perfect example of a band who thinks they needed to keep their sound fresh. Rarely works. The first album was such a great straightforward rock album, I'm not sure why they felt it was okay to be 80% electronic by their third album. Was a bad idea. Hopefully Kele has gotten a lot of it out of his system, at least with regards to poisoning Bloc Party's sound any further.

I dunno, but they haven't changed their set list much since the first time they played lolla.

I was a pretty big fan of Marilyn Manson back when Marilyn Manson was the name of a band, and not just a fat, drunk, pasty dude with a bunch of anonymous sidemen. That said, I've been to three or four MM concerts, and they were all pretty damn fun.

It may be another tough year to get originals. If it is a rough market, snagging two bands with the popularity of PJ and RHCP to go along with potentially the first Beasties show since 2008, would make for a decent top three.

um yup, just talking headliners, and the usual legacy act. I'm not talking mid or lower tier where most of our "newer' acts would be. Obviously our headliners tend to be acts with some type of a catalog worthy of a headlining slot
rhcp - very probable
madonna - new album, tour to follow (lady gaga type get)
beastie boys - when they come back, they will be here
the cure - predicted every year, this year's english get
prodigy - we are limited with headliner worthy acts in this genre, and we know there is going to be one
wilco - yeah, it's time for them again
ministry - just announced reunion shows for june 2012 - and only 4 cities
elvis costello - this year's lou reed, cars, etc.
obviously they will be at least 122 more bands

I see Justice headlining before The Prodigy, although I'd take either of them. RHCP are almost guaranteed, even though their new album sucks. Didn't know about the Ministry reunion, but I still don't think they're very relevant. Along the same note, I didn't know Madonna was releasing a new album, but really, Madonna?! And as much as everyone here hates to admit it, The Cure probably don't have much of a chance of being there. Like you even said, they are predicted every year, and they're never here.... Elvis Costello just did a US tour, so if he was going to be at Lolla, it would have been this year.
Here's what I think will go down (pretty much similar to what everyone's been saying):
The Throne * RHCP * REM (maybe Radiohead)
Justice * Death Cab * Bon Iver
