View Full Version : Best means of getting tickets?

Hello all, first time poster here so bear with me.

I wanted to go last year, especially since the lineup in my opinion was better, but this is the first year where I finally get to go with my girlfriend, but I am unsure as to where to go for tickets. I know there are still single day passes, at $90 each, which puts it at $270 each for the whole thing. So why are the 3-day passes $310 and up on stubhub.com? I've dealt with stubhub but that was my own ignorance. I bought tickets for a Cake concert as soon as they went on sale for $80 and then bought my brother another ticket the night before the concert for $32. I know Lolapalooza is an entirely different story though, I'm counting on it :D

Any thoughts?

i am going to go ahead and guess your girlfriend is with you for your looks (or your money)...

Stub hub charges $310 because the seller thinks he/she can get that price.
The only difference between a 3 day pass and 3 one day passes is that you will not be able to exit/re-enter the park if you use one day passes. Is the ability to exit/re-enter each day worth $40? Probably not, but to each his own.

In the past, obtaining tickets at (or even considerably below) face value on the Friday of the fest has been possible (and I've done so myself, as well as helped friends to do the same)...and, could even be categorized as EASY. Will that be the case in 2011? I can't be certain, but, there will probably be panic sellers on Friday in the early afternoon.

If you have to travel (fly/hotel) for this fest...you're stuck, you probably want/need to have something in hand before you travel, and you are clearly already aware of the options available to you.
If you are local, you might want to take a chance and see what's out there on Friday.

Good luck.

I am indeed far away in FL, but I'm not sure I would consider it a loss if I did take the risk and couldn't find tickets. We certainly wouldn't stay as long, but I'm sure there are things to do in Chicago. I appreciate your help.

lollapalooza opens a box office across the street from grant park in chicago a couple of days before the fest starts on friday. the only year I did not buy tickets in person at the box office in the years 2005 to 2010 inclusive was 2006, as that year, my better half bought the tickets on line when they went on sale as a gift for us.

you should have no problem buying tickets in person from the box office if you get to chicago a day or so before the fest.

I greatly appreciate your response. When you went to buy tickets from the box office, were you able to buy one of the 3-day passes or did you buy 3 single day tickets? I also have to ask if you paid the original $215 or was it cheaper?

3 day passes are sold out so you won't be able to buy them. Single day tickets are still available though. But kee pin mind that 3 day passes haven't in the past sold out in June. One could speculate that since 3 day passes sold out much quicker this year that single day passes are also selling quicker and might not be available at the box office. Assuming you buy print pass tickets, there is no cost advantage to waiting.

in 2005, I bought two one day tickets for saturday, as we knew sunday was going to be 105 degrees. in 2007, I bought a one day ticket for saturday, as we had visitors from out of town that week, and couldn't attend the other two days. in 2008, 2009, and 2010, I bought three day passes at whatever price the box office was selling them at.

this year I'll probably buy three one day passes for me, and a saturday one day pass for the better half, who does not desire to go more than one day anymore to lollapalooza.

This. IDK if I'd suggest waiting till day of this year...

I work downtown, 10 minute walk from the box office. the box office used to open on monday, last year I think it was wednesday. I am confident that I'll be able to purchase the three one days, and if the fest is sold out by then, we'll do other music that weekend. After all, John Legend and Sade are playing all three days at United Center, Peter Asher and Henry McCullogh are in Rosemont, Megadeth and Brad Paisley play separate days in Tinley, and ZZ Top are at the horseshoe in Hammond.

Nanatod will apparently not be attending Lollapalooza this year. Coachella, Bonnaroo, ACL all sold out and are were/are expensive on the secondary market. Lollapalooza sold out its 3 day passes 7 weeks before they ever had before. How you could expect there to be tix day of is beyond me. With all the aftershows there is certainly enough music going on but its all pretty spendy too.

In the past I have found 3 day passes for less than the cost of 2@1 days but there decidedly seems to be a disconnect in the costs of the varying tix. I think that underscores the demand there is for the full festival. I LOVE being able to leave and come back but its not worth $40 extra PLUS the ability to sell off a day or two if I need/want.

I'm not waiting until the day of the show, I'm waiting until the box office opens, which is always a couple of days prior to the first day of lolla. And you don't have to worry -- I'm nanatod, and I'm not missing a Chicagopalooza yet, although I am one of the people who thinks that this year's line-up is not very good.

And, there's always lollapalooza chile 2012 if things don't work out for me in grant park.

Is the purpose of waiting just so that you can continue your buying at the box office streak? I see no other reason to wait.

Well it wouldn't be Lolla without you there. If you don't like the lineup get a single day(s) and enjoy everything else the city has to offer. But soon the single days will be gone too. They even changed the wording on the ticket page, though that could just be marketing too.

Care to bet if there are any tickets available when the Box Office opens? I'd bet several beers on that.

Alright guys, I will buy the single day passes. I do have one question though. Someone mentioned being able to perhaps sell a single day if say we DIDNT want to see Eminem, we could just wait out front of the park and sell it the old fashioned way?

of course it wouldn't be lolla without NANAFISH!!!!

unlike yourself, I'm not an out of towner -- I work within walking distance of grant park.

Missed the boat on 3 days, and have been looking through ebay and CL for decent priced scalped tickets. Am I correct in assuming people who have printpass tickets could easily print off the same ticket a bunch of times and keep reselling it? I've only done hard passes so I'm unsure how that works.

You can print off as many as you want, so yeah... it's possible.

If I were buying a 2nd hand PrintPass ticket I would make sure that I could be there right as the box office opens (usually Wednesday before sometime in the afternoon) so that I am certain I am the first to redeem it.

I was just realizing how lucky I had been with printpasses in the past. I wonder how many people fall victim to this. I imagine its not as many as would be expected as its pretty easy to track funds.

Another question, has anyone received their hard tickets yet? I'm dealing with someone who says they already have their's which seems dubious. Don't remember having mine last year at this time. I guess this is a lesson to not procrastinate in buying next time. ugh.

hey i found this job posted on a blog. they need people to sell ice cream at concert festivals, and they didn't specify but i think it might include lolla. my girlfriend applied and they said they still needed people, so hopefully lollapalooza is one of the festivals they need workers for, and they pay entrance or offer a ticket to get in:
